Horse Therapy Program Leaves School For Special Needs Students

“It helps my students loosen the limbs and to be able to flow with the motions of the horses. For those who have social skill issues, they are able to integrate their skills with other students when they’re out horseriding.” — Hillcrest Principal Lori Manresa

A few days after I covered Tim Tebow's Night to Shine Jax, I discovered the incredible energy and camaraderie of students and teachers at Hillcrest Public School in Marion County. Just as may think you can't get over a bad day, these students will prove you wrong.
Unfortunately, their horse riding program Marion Therapeutic Riding Association (MTRA), Ocala, Florida has come to an end after more than 3 decades of free-of-charge services. The program has been shifted to the Greenways and local special education students are continuing to participate.
Watch the report to find out how and why from the school principal, a school board member, and a volunteer's love story.
