Looking Ahead to Another Election Year

The general elections may have just finished, but the Alachua County Supervisors of Elections are still hard at work preparing for the City of Gainesville elections in March.
They are getting ready for the next one.
Director of outreach TJ Pyche said what happened in this election will better prepare them for the one in March.

“It was a very long election,” he said. “Not only because of recounts but we saw a huge increase in young voters, which is great, but they were not registered to vote in Alachua County.”
All those voters who weren’t registered in the county did so at the polls, and it caused a massive delay in the total votes from various precincts.
The City of Gainesville elections is on March 19. They include the mayor, city commission seats and all of district four.
Just like the city election earlier this year, they will be using an electronic poll book for the second time.
The poll book lets you sign in on an electronic pad that has your voter registration in it, making things more efficient.
Pyche said within the next couple of weeks the whole office staff will have a meeting to discuss all their plans for the upcoming city election, but there is no set date at the moment.
